A Success Story in the Peanut Industry; Dokuyucu Domestic and Foreign Trade Ltd. Ltd.
02.06.2021
Can we get to know you?
I was born in Nizip in 1980 and grew up in these lands. I retired in 2018 from my public service, which I started as a disabled personnel in 2002. In 2018, I took over the position of Dokuyucu İç ve Dış Ticaret Limited, which I founded with my wife in 2015. Apart from our current job, we strive to undertake a social responsibility role as an active participant and supporter in sociocultural and sports activities, including disability issues and disabled sports.
Was there a profession you wanted or dreamed of when you were a child? Are you currently doing the job you dream of?
When I was a child, I wanted to be a Journalist or Archaeologist. But dreams and circumstances did not match. We export with the company we established with my wife after 15 years of my civil service. Even though it was not a childhood dream, trade and export became our youth dream. Nowadays, we are trying to pursue new dreams. For now, in our dreams; We want to introduce and sell Pistachios, the cultural pride of our country, to the whole world and travel all over the world.
Do you export?
From the moment of our establishment, we started to work with an export focus. We have exported and continue to export many food products, machinery and equipment, insulation raw materials and packaging products, especially Pistachios, known as the green gold of our region. In this respect, we define our company as a Foreign Trade Company. We exported to dozens of countries in 5 continents. Our sales focus consists of Middle Eastern countries and China. In fact, at the end of our Pistachio Export to China, we ensured that Pistachio advertisements and short promotional videos explaining the production stages of Pistachios were broadcast on the Chinese State channel with the company that became our business partner. We started such a promotion there, in the face of the unusual Chinese financial usage trend, even though China also produces Pistachios. Hopefully, we, as pistachio producers and exporters, will reap the fruits of this in the medium and long term. We are working to export to the whole world. In addition, we follow current exports and needs in a statistically planned manner and draw our future predictions within this framework.
What are your views on the future of your industry?
Pistachios, like all other sectors, are affected by the economic contraction caused by the pandemic. We estimate that our recovery as a result of this global crisis will take place in the spring of 2021. Unfortunately, the effects of this process crisis will be seen in the 2021 pistachio season. The fact that the high yield of 2020 is not reflected in sales due to the pandemic effect will cause difficulties in price stability.
In general, I see it as essential that the advertising and sales of pistachios around the world and throughout the country should be raised to the required level within the framework of the programs to be prepared, just as it was with hazelnuts in the past. It is known that pistachios are more delicious and of higher quality than pistachios from other countries. Nevertheless; Pistachio production is increasing all over the world, especially in America and Iran. If price stability is not achieved due to this increase, it will negatively affect us in terms of sales.
Agricultural yield per tree in pistachio production should be increased. Tree plantings should be done in accordance with mechanized agriculture. Price stability should be ensured over the years without our farmers being victimized in any way. Because depending on the yield (due to periodicity), there are extreme differences in prices between years. Production capacity should be increased and production should be encouraged both in our region and throughout the country. Thus, we think that we should be the largest producer of Pistachios not only in terms of taste and aroma but also in terms of yield.
Do You Participate in the Activities of Nizip Commodity Exchange? If you agree, what kind of contribution did it make to you?
Yes, we participate in the activities of Nizip Commodity Exchange. As a company, we participated in his business trip to Dubai and America in recent years. During this business trip, the Commodity Exchange offered us the opportunity to meet bilaterally with the suppliers of those countries. It provides all kinds of support to us and other project members with the UR-GE Project it has put into operation.
